Artist's
Statement
Following
a professional background in the fields of
interiors, architecture and exhibition design I
became a lecturer in three dimensional design
before moving from London, UK to Hong Kong
where I was introduced to the joys of patchwork
and quilting.
After
my return to the UK in 1999, I had the opportunity
to take up my new found ‘hobby’ and studied
for City & Guilds Patchwork and Quilting, then
taught patchwork and quilting in further education
and became an active member of several quilt
groups. I am currently a member of the Quilters’
Guild of the British Isles and the specialist
group Contemporary Quilt.
My
contemporary textile work has an emphasis on
conveying ‘messages’ and a desire to capture a
sense of place or time. I focus on designing
diverse contemporary art quilts and textile
pieces, with the aim of developing my creativity
working with photographs, computer imagery,
textiles, print and mixed media; meeting the
challenge of various exhibitions and juried shows
on both sides of the Atlantic.
I
now live in downtown Toronto with my husband and
four cats. I endeavor to share my passion when and
where possible and in addition to Connections,
I am a member of York Heritage Quilters’ Guild,
a volunteer at the Textile Museum of Canada and a
founder member of Contemporary QuiltArt; a
new group for art quilters in Toronto.
