Artist's
Statement
From
my earliest memory I have always drawn and painted.
While
still very young, my mother introduced me to the joy of
sewing by machine. I
now combine my love of painting and drawing with sewing on
my own hand-painted fabrics using a wide variety of threads
and water-soluble materials in a painterly fashion.
There
is a certain satisfaction I get from the close relationship
between myself and my beloved, old sewing machine and the
feel of the resulting canvas when all is done.
The
beauty of a flower or a human face, the sparkle of sun on
water, a jack pine leaning with the wind, images of rural
Ontario, the play of light and shadow and the beauty and
serenity of Mother Nature - all intrigue and challenge me.
